Invasive plants and animals that multiply and spread aggressively outside their natural ranges are causing enormous problems worldwide.  We are seeking funding to prepare an introduction to Marion County's invasive species situation to go on this page. Meanwhile, you can find background information through the following websites:

Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council - FLEPPC is the organization that facilitates communication among Florida invasive species managers. They provide a ranked list of Florida's worst invasive exotic plants and information about control programs.

Invasive.org - This is the Bugwood Network's  website based at the University of Georgia. They have a great photo gallery called Forestry Images, publications to download, and links to lots of other good information on both plants and animals  -- particularly insect pests that threaten trees.

National Invasive Species Information Center - USDA's  National Agricultural Library provides this invasive species portal. It features news from around the country and allows you to browse topics like Microbes, Economic Impacts, and Laws and Regulations.

The Global Invasive Species Initiative  - The Nature Conservancy's invasives website is an especially rich source of  information for vegetation management professionals. It houses Rod Randall's Big Weed List, where you can find notes about practically any plant that has ever been caught escaping from cultivation anywhere in the world. (This is the place to look for gossip about how "nice" Florida native plants behave when they go to Australia. Or the kind of mischief that pretty little vine you just bought at the garden center might get into.)
